Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, has advised Nigerians to shelve the planned nationwide protest slated for August 1-10 due to “unintended consequences”.

In a statement on Wednesday, the traditional ruler said Nigerians have genuine reasons to protest but advised the people to embrace dialogue.

The Olu of Warri said although protest remains a powerful tool for expression, it can also lead to “further division” of the country.

“The pains and frustrations of Nigerians are valid, and these voices should not he ignored or taken for granted. But let us channel our energies towards constructive dialogue and engagements,“ the statement reads.

”One where dialogue and cooperation pave the way for lasting change. Together we will achieve the development and prosperity that we as a Nation not only aspire to but are capable of. Our collective strength lies in our ability to unite & work towards common goals for the Nation.”

He urged the federal government to commit to safeguarding the rights and well-being of citizens, especially the minority.

”This commitment goes beyond ethnic, religious, or any obvious divisions. It embodies the idea that the well-being of every single Nigerian matters. In doing so, the land and the atmosphere over the country will align and bring about the much-desired relief and upliftment that the entire nation yearns for.”
