Olubadan, Adeleke witness launch of Airtel 4G in Ibadan

With a mission to provide a fast and reliable internet service to its teeming customers, Airtel Nigeria has launched its first 4G network in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

Ademola Adeleke, senator representing Osun west; Moses Adeyemo, deputy governor of Oyo; Saliu Adetunji, olubadan of Ibadan land, were among the dignitaries who converged on the Ibadan Civic Centre for the launch.

The leading telecom operator expressed its commitment to make its consumers enjoy a “true” 4G experience.

Airtel explained the choice of Ibadan, the historical capital city known for setting the pace for developmental initiatives.

While speaking at the event, Segun Ogunsanya, chief executive officer of the telco, reminisced his childhood days in Ibadan.

“What we are launching today is the 4G that truly works. With this launch, Airtel will empower people, businesses, small and large and also the cultural aspect through technology,” he said.

“Our 4G will drive growth, spread prosperity and empower the highly enterprising people of Ibadan to fulfill their potentials and realize their dreams. For those who cherish enjoyment, you can watch and download movies on our 4G network seamlessly.

“Ours is a 4G service that is not only fast and reliable but works all the time. With this launch in Ibadan, we are revolutionising the mobile internet terrain.”

Olabiyi Durojaye, Chairman, Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) also commended the company for launching the 4G service.

“NCC has taken note of Airtel’s giant strides towards the provision of good telecommunication services in Nigeria and thereby accelerating economic growth,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Ahmad Mokhles, chief commercial officer of Airtel Nigeria, said the company has simplified the process of connecting to its 4G network just as it is rolling out specific offers that will delight all telecoms consumers regardless of their income level and social status.

According to Mokhles, “to enjoy the Airtel 4G, you can swap your existing Airtel SIM to an Airtel 4G SIM, or purchase an Airtel 4G SIM in any of our retail outlet in Ibadan. Upon swap or purchase, you will instantly begin to enjoy the Airtel 4G experience. And the great part is that Airtel will gift you a 4gig of data plus an additional 25% data bonus for next three months for plans above N500.

“We are also going the extra-mile to ensure that we deliver 4G experience to every door step in Ibadan as we are currently discussing with our various partners to roll-out affordable devices (MIFI and Smartphones – 4G enabled) to our customers.”
