Olympics Day 13: Brume, Usoro, Ochonogor compete in long jump final

Team Nigeria’s Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonohor will compete in the final of the women’s long jump at the Paris Olympics on Thursday. 

The trio will compete to win Nigeria’s first medal at the Games, which commenced 13 days ago.

The ladies qualified for the final following impressive performances in the event’s qualification round.

Brume secured her third consecutive Olympics final after leaping beyond the automatic qualification mark and hitting 6.76 meters.

The 28-year-old won a bronze medal in the event at the Tokyo Olympics. She was one of Team Nigeria’s two medallists from the COVID-19-ridden Games.

She has been one of Nigeria’s consistent conveyors of medals at major international competitions, and hopefully, her run continues.

Ruth Usoro will be participating in her first major long jump final. She is capable of producing a shocking moment after leaping 6.68 meters to finish fifth on the qualification table.

Ochonogor is also a prospect and she was seventh in the qualifier with 6.65 meters to secure one of the non-automatic spots in the final.

The trio will compete for medals when the final commences at 8 pm.

Before that, Nigeria’s women and men 4×100 meter team will participate in round one of the relays.

The two teams will compete from 10 am to 11 am in the morning session.

In wrestling, Odunayo Adekuoroye will head to the mat for women’s 53kg freestyle by 10 am.
