Omeruo: How Super Eagles feel ahead of Algerian clash

Kenneth Omeruo says Nigeria is a difficult side to cast aside at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Eagypt.

He is confident Nigeria can continue their 2019 AFCON run with victory over Algeria in Sunday’s semi-final at the Cairo International stadium.

The Chelsea defender has been a regular alongside William Troost-Ekong in central defence as the Super Eagles navigated past Cameroon and South Africa in the knockout stages.

Omeruo also revealed at the pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s game that there’s been a real buzz around the Eagles camp since they reached the semi-final and even more so once they found out who they would be facing.

“With all seriousness, Nigeria is a very difficult side as well,” Omeruo

“We have been recovering in the last two days to make sure everyone is ready and fit for tomorrow’s game.

“We are looking forward to it.

It is believed that the North Africans are known for always feigning injuries and attracting the sympathy of match officials.

And the defender says Nigeria are aware of this and will be ready for the antics of the Fennecs.

“One thing my coach (Gernot Rohr) has always said over and over again is no fouls especially around the box.”

“The best way is to step up and be at alert. They have quick players,” he warned.

“We know this and we are also quick as well. We have to be very careful and make sure there is no contact especially around the 18 yard box.

“It’s football and nothing is new. It happens everywhere, attackers will try to fall down and draw fouls. The best way is to stay smart and think ahead.

“It’s a strong team, we’ve been defensively strong and we’ve got a lot of threat going forward,” he added.

Sunday’s game kicks-off at 8pm.
