Ovie Omo-Agege, deputy president of the senate, says his party will take over Delta state in 2023.
The state has been in the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999.
The deputy senate president is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Delta.
In a statement on Sunday, Ima Niboro, director of media in the Omo-Agege campaign organisation, quoted the senator as making the comment while congratulating APC candidates in the state.

Peter Nwaoboshi, Delta north senator; Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Delta central senatorial candidate; and Ede Dafinone, Delta south senatorial candidate; clinched their tickets unopposed.
Francis Ejiroghene Waive was also elected as the party’s candidate for Ughelli north, Ughelli south and Udu federal constituency.
Omo-Agege described the primaries as a sign of things to come in the state, adding that the outcome is a victory for the Delta APC family.

He said the exercise has demonstrated the “capacity to work together for the good of the party and the state as a whole”.
“The outcome of the primaries will best be described as no victor no vanquished, as all the aspirants gave a good account of themselves and congratulated each other for a good contest,” Omo-Agege said.
The senator praised the leadership of the party for ensuring the success of the primaries and for mobilising APC members to participate fully in the electoral process.
