Ondo chases destitute off the streets

As part of the plans to make Ondo one of the leading cities in Nigeria, the Ondo State government has set up a task force committee to evacuate miscreants off the streets.

The committee, headed by Mr. Sola Aladesuyi, sent off 130 destitute and miscreants off the streets in major cities of Ondo Central Senatorial Zone on Monday.

“The exercise was carried to sanitise and make Ondo a place of delight,” Aladesuyi said.

“We have been given a specific assignment to keep our streets clean and devoid of destitute people and even hawkers.”

He said those affected by the exercise constituted a menace in the cities and participated in jungle justice during crises.

The task force, which is operational in all the three senatorial zones, has since commenced operations in all major cities by evacuating the destitute people to temporary camps across the zones.

In their separate remarks, the coordinators of the task force in Ondo North and South Senatorial zones, Messrs Ayo Ayintete and Abimbola Tofowomo, said they would do everything to ensure the success of thier mandate succeeded.

Ayintete, who is also the special assistant to the governor on special duties, commended the people for their support.

Meanwhile, Mr Segun Adedugba, the deputy director (social welfare) of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development said that a lot had been done to rehabilitate some of the destitute people.

The task force, inaugurated on April 8, 2014, comprised representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, State Security Service and military officers.
