Wilfred Afolabi, the Ondo state commissioner of police, has redeployed Ganiyu Dauda, the divisional police officer (DPO) of Igbara-Oke division in Ifedore LGA.

During a protest on Friday, residents of the community accused the DPO of extortion.

The demonstrators, who bore leaves and placards with sundry inscriptions, blocked the main road leading to the community.

In response, the police commissioner, through Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, said Dauda’s redeployment was prompted by a viral video on social media showing the DPO being accused of extortion by the locals.

“The commissioner of police has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and to uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement reads.

The spokesperson said preliminary findings suggest the incident arose from a disagreement between the DPO and some community members.

He said the matter was resolved following the intervention of the Ifedore LGA chairman, who facilitated dialogue and de-escalation.

“To ensure impartiality in the ongoing investigation, the DPO has been redeployed from Igbara-Oke division pending the outcome of the inquiry,” Afolabi said.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and community trust, urging the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
