Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of Ondo, has cautioned residents against dumping of waste in drainage channels.
Aiyedatiwa spoke in the wake of recent flooding across swathes of Ondo on Friday.
In a statement issued on Monday by Ebenezer Adeniyan, press secretary to the governor, Aiyedatiwa said he is concerned about the impact of the flood on affected communities.
He assured residents that his administration is committed to finding long term solutions to flooding in the state.

“We are deeply concerned about the challenges these floods have caused, and we are already working to ensure that affected areas receive immediate relief and long-term solutions,” he said.
“I also want to appeal to you my people to desist from acts that could lead to flooding such as blocking the drainage channels with wastes.
“When the drainages are blocked, water won’t be able to flow freely and this will lead to flooding. This is not good for our environment. Let us stop it.”

The flood reportedly affected Ife Road, Saluwa, Sabo, Itanla, Oke Odunwo, among others.
