Ondo LG polls: Police announce restriction of movement, exempt essential workers

The Ondo police command has announced the restriction of vehicular movement during the LGA election in the state.

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has fixed January 18 for the conduct of the poll in the 18 LGAs.

Wilfred Afolabi, commissioner of police in the state, issued the directive on Thursday in a statement signed by Funmilayo Odunlami, the command’s spokesperson.

Odunlami said the restriction will begin from 6am and last till 4pm on Saturday, adding that security operatives have been deployed to ensure compliance.

The police spokesperson added that motorists who intend to commute through the state to other cities in the country should use alternative routes.

“However, security personnel, health workers, firefighters and other essential service providers are allowed free movement to carry out their duties. Cases of emergency are also considered for movement,” the statement reads.

“We urge all eligible voters to abide by the rules guiding the electoral process while carrying out their civic duties.

“All intending miscreants who may want to cause mayhem on election day are warned to steer clear.

“All machineries are in place to nip any untoward act as they raise their ugly heads.”
