The Ondo state government says it has recorded its first COVID-19 fatality.
Wahab Adegbenro, commissioner of health in the state, announced this in Akure the state capital, on Monday.
Adegbenro said the deceased came into the state from Lagos after testing positive for the disease.
He added that the deceased was already receiving treatment at the state’s infectious disease centre before he died.

He added that the deceased had an underlying health challenge of renal failure, which worsened his case and eventually led to his death.
The commissioner said the remains of the deceased would be buried in accordance with the laid down rules by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
He added that other COVID-19 patients in the state are in stable condition.

The state has 15 cases of COVID-19. Of the figure, eight are active cases while six patients have been discharged.
