One dead, 15 rescued in Sokoto boat mishap

One person has died in a boat accident in Sokoto state.

The incident occurred on Saturday at River Rima in Wamakko LGA, where a boat reportedly carrying over 35 people capsized.

Aliyu Kafidangi, the state’s head of operations at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), visited the location to assess the situation.

Rescue teams have recovered one body, while fifteen survivors managed to swim safely to the shore.

Eyewitnesses and survivors said the vessel capsized due to overloading.

The passengers, including elderly individuals, women, children, and youths, were crossing the river to reach their farms.

NEMA’s search and rescue team, along with local divers, have continued in their efforts to locate the missing victims.
