The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says an accident involving an ambulance vehicle and articulated truck in the Gbagada area of the state has claimed a life.
In a statement on Sunday, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary of the agency, said the articulated truck drifted off the road after it was hit on the side while on motion.
He said an approaching ambulance rammed under the truck after it swerved to another lane, leading to the death of the ambulance driver.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that operatives of LASEMA have activated the evacuation process to avert all other incidents and ensure public safety.

He added that the body of the victim has been handed over to the ambulance association members to deliver it to the morgue.
“Upon arrival of the Eagle response team at the incident scene by 0202 hrs, LRT discovered an accident involving an ambulance vehicle, registration number JBD-405HA and an articulated truck, registration number unknown,” the statement reads.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the articulated truck was hit on the side while on motion, which led to loss of control by the truck driver and his swerve into another lane.

“The sudden lane change, however, reportedly resulted in a road crash when the approaching ambulance rammed under the truck at top speed, resulting in the death of the ambulance driver.
“Unfortunately, the ambulance driver got trapped inside the car on impact, and lost his life to the incident. The commodity (dead body) has been extricated from the accident vehicle.”
