One person has been confirmed dead and others injured in a vehicle accident in Abuja.
The accident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday on the Bwari-Dutse expressway.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident was as a result of over-speeding by a lorry carrying sand, which collided with a taxi and killed the driver in the process.

In May, TheCable reported that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said 1,441 people died, and 8,339 others were injured in 2,733 auto crashes across the country between January and March.
Dauda Biu, the corps marshal, said over-speeding contributed to the skyrocketing number of road fatalities globally.

Biu lamented that attempts to enforce a policy on the installation of speed-limiting devices in commercial vehicles have been futile.
