The Zamfara police command says its tactical operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies, have repelled “a large number of armed bandits” from attacking Shinkafi town, headquarters of Shinkafi LGA of the state.
In a statement on Friday, Muhammad Shehu, police public relations officer, said the bandits were from the camp of a notorious kingpin called “Turji”.
According to Shehu, the bandits were engaged in a gunfight by the joint security forces who were stationed in Shinkafi to safeguard the lives and properties of the communities.
“At the end of the gun battle that lasted for hours, one of the bandits was fatally injured, while others escaped with possible bullet wounds,” he said.

He added that Ayuba Elkanah, the state commissioner of police, has directed the immediate deployment of more security operatives to complement the existing security arrangements in order to forestall further attacks.
TheCable had reported that 73 students were abducted from Government Day Secondary School in Kaya, Maradun LGA of the state on Wednesday.
However, five of the abducted students escaped from captivity.

Following the attack, Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara, ordered the closure of all schools in the state.
