One feared dead as diesel tanker falls on towing van in Lagos

An unidentified person was rescued after a diesel tanker fell on a towing van on Saturday in Lagos.

The incident took place at Otto Wharf bus stop, Apapa Oshodi expressway, Mile 2.

Another unidentified person is believed to have died in the accident.

Margaret Adeseye, director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the incident was reported at 4am on Sunday.

The 45,000-litre tanker was said to be headed towards Oshodi from Apapa, where it loaded diesel to full capacity, before falling on a stationary towing van.

“The resultant accident, which was mitigated by the Sari-Iganmu Crew from resulting in fire outbreak and secondary incident, however left two males adults involved as one was rescued alive with varying degree of injury to the hospital and the other recovered suspected dead,” Adeseye said. 

“The evacuation of the remains of the tanker and towing van carried out with any atom of further danger completely averted to bring the operations to a logical conclusion.”
