One killed, 10 injured during APC primary election in Epe

One person was reportedly killed while 10 others sustained injuries after suspected hoodlums invaded ward A4 polling unit in Epe to disrupt the national assembly primary election on Thursday.

The deceased aged 30 was identified as Idris Alooma.

APC members in Epe were at their various wards to participate in the direct primary election conducted for house of representatives and senators respectively.

The delegates, who were from 19 wards of Epe division, arrived at the polling unit around 3:45pm.

Security operatives screened the delegates before they were allowed into the venue of the election.

According to NAN, some officials were spotted manipulating result and announcing result without proper counting of people in the queue.

Some of the wards where voting took place were Ibonwon, Ikosi-ejirin, recreation centre and ogunmodede among others.

Akeem Lawal, a witness, said the killing happened at 4:15pm after the election while some members were awaiting announcement of the result.

He said the attackers were informed that the election was not in favour of their candidate and they mobilised themselves to the polling unit.

“The suspected killer who led the gang is Wale Sabano and the person killed is Idris Alooma,” he said.

Lawal complained that the security in Epe was not adequate.

A NAN reporter who monitored the election reports that, some aggrieved youth set houses and vehicles ablaze across Epe community.

Adeyeri Sunday, divisional police officer in Epe, told NAN that one of the suspects had been arrested, adding that his team would do everything humanly possible to arrest other suspects and bring them to book.
