The Borno police command says at least one person has been killed during a protest in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Friday.
Yusuf Lawal, the Borno state police commissioner, told NAN that the death was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion during the #EndBadGovernance protest at Deribe junction near FGGC Monguno Annex Bulumkutu area.
The nationwide demonstration against economic hardship which kicked off on Thursday turned violent in some states amid looting spree.
Police officers shot teargas canisters at protesters in Lagos, Abuja, Gombe, Yobe, Kaduna and Kano.
