‘One killed, 12 abducted’ as gunmen attack Kaduna community

One person has been reportedly killed, while 12 others were abducted when gunmen attacked Awon/Mothercat junction in Kachia LGA of Kaduna state.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the community on Wednesday night, with four persons reported to have sustained injuries.

Mohammad Jalige, Kaduna police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, adding that the gunmen came in large numbers to attack the community with sophisticated weapons.

He said 14 people were abducted, but security agents rescued two out of the victims.

“On the 23rd June, 2021, the Kaduna Police Command received an unfortunate report from Divisional Police Police, Kachia, that on the same date at about 2120hrs, some unknown armed bandits in large number bearing sophisticated weapons invaded Awon/Mothercat Junction in Kachia LGA, and started shooting indiscriminately at law abiding citizens who gathered for various legitimate activities,” he said.

“On getting the information, a joint team of the Police, Military and vigilantes rushed to the area with the view of countering the hoodlums, but discovered that they have inflicted injuries on four persons, while one Hamisu Mikailu ‘M’, 40 years, was found dead.

“Sadly, fourteen (14) persons were unaccounted for, while the injured victims were all evacuated to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

“The security team trailed the bandits to the outskirts of the village and rescued two persons, whereas the 12 were whisked away by the bandits to a yet-to-be-identified location.

“Meanwhile, the operatives are not relenting in their quest to rescue the remaining victims unhurt.”

He added that “normalcy has been restored to the affected community”, while security agents are on patrol in the area.

While expressing sadness over the incident, the police command extended “its condolences to the family of the deceased and equally wished the injured a full health recovery”.
