One killed as violence mars APC primary in Calabar

One Emmanuel Ufot has been killed in Calabar, the Cross River capital after fighting broke out at the venue of a primary in the state.

The incident happened at the cultural centre, where the Akpabuyo/Bakassi, Calabar south federal constituency primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took place on Friday.

Ufot was said to have died as a result of sustaining gunshot injury.

Irene Ugbo, the state police command public relations officer, dismissed reports that Ufot was shot at close range by officers of the state anticultism/kidnapping team of the Nigeria police.

She said there were two opposition parties and trouble ensued, adding that the victim was shot by a member of the opposition.

Ugbo said the incident happened around the premises of the state’s anti-cultism/kidnapping team of the Nigeria Police Force who intervened in the matter.

She added that the team tried to rush the man to the hospital, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The spokesperson also alleged that the deceased had a pistol and charms strapped to his body.
