One killed as gunmen attack oil facility in Bayelsa

Austin Igwe, a security guard at the Kolo Creek Oilfield, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Bayelsa state, lost his life when some gunmen attacked the facility on Friday morning.

According to NAN, Igwe, who was unarmed, had already been shot before the arrival of an armed security team that eventually chased the attackers.

His remains have reportedly been evacuated by policemen from Ogbia police station and troops of Operation Pulo Shield (OPPS), a special military outfit in Bayelsa.

“We heard that unidentified gunmen had attacked Shell facility and that our brother who was on duty fell to their bullets, we got here and found out that it was true,” a relative of the victim told NAN.

“The pain is too much to bear, this is tragedy for us, please I am short of words.”

Collsa Ado, spokesman of the military outfit, promised to make details of the incident available “soonest”.
