The Promoters of One Nigeria (PRONIG), a group which focuses on peace initiatives, says it is determined to promote religious and ethnic tolerance in the country.

Chamberlain Iroka, PRONIG’s public relations officer, stated this during the inauguration of new executives for the group.

In a statement on Wednesday, he said the new executives are people strongly commitment to upholding the ideals of a united Nigeria.

“PRONIG as an organisation recognises the importance of mutual coexistence amongst the various religious and ethnic groups in the country, hence, the resolve to continue to preach the message of religious and ethnic tolerance,” Iroka said.

“Over the years, we have proactively engaged citizens through town hall meetings and engaged in charitable endeavours that have been beneficial to the underprivileged in the society, and we are committed to these ideals because that is what we stand for.”

Iroka added that the new executives consist of “distinguished Nigerians”, who have come on board with a pledge to ensure that those values that “unite us are promoted through effective channels to achieve the overarching objective of one Nigeria for all”.

“At the extraordinary general meeting of the association, Dr Tega Edache was elected Chairman of PRONIG, alongside other executives to lead the organisation’s affairs in achieving the strategic mandate of initiating causes that unite Nigerians from all walks of life,” he said.

In his remarks, Michael Bunuju, the outgoing chairman, thanked the members for the unique opportunity to serve.

He charged the members to extend their support to the new executives as they settle down for the task at hand.
