Chukwu: 14th Ebola case ‘a false positive’

The total number of confirmed cases of Ebola (including the index case of Patrick Sawyer) is now 13 and not the 14 initially announced, minister of health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, said on Monday.

Chukuwu had announced on Friday that two more Nigerians had come down with the virus, bringing the total number of recorded cases to 14.

But he said on Monday that the 14th case initially announced as positive has turned out to be a “false positive”.

“Total number of deaths due to Ebola Virus Disease (including the index case) remains five,” he said.

“Total number of EVD patients treated and discharged is five.”

Chukwu further gave the total number of EVD patients currently under treatment in the isolation ward as three.

“One of the three persons currently under treatment is for imminent discharge after necessary protocols,” he added.

  1. In Jos, resident doctors were said to have resumed at their duty post yesterday since there was no threat of issuing sack letter from JUTH management.
On sighting the doctors, JOHESU officials went to the hospital management and reported that there are strange persons with ward courts parading themselves as JUTH doctor.
And that management should send them away bcos they dont feel safe with the strange persons(resident doctors) around.
And that if management does not act, they will ask their members to leave.
The management lead by the CMD had to address the resident doctors, he asked them to leave that their sack has not been reverse and other health workers were not comfortable with them around.
The friend that narrated this to me said it was the worst humiliation of his life.
