‘One tragedy too many’ — Kwara governor mourns as gunmen kill FIRS deputy director

Mohammed Kudu, a deputy director with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has been shot dead.

According to a statement by Johannes Oluwatobi, media aide to the FIRS chairman, the FIRS director was killed on Sunday in Niger state.

Kudu, who was FIRS coordinator for Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, was said to be on his way back to Kaduna from Lafiagi in Kwara state, when the vehicle he was travelling in was attacked.

He was buried on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday by Rafiu Ajakaye, his chief press secretary, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased, and urged security agencies to step up efforts to improve security.

“With total submission to the will of God, I send my heartfelt condolences to the people of Lafiagi Emirate, His Royal Highness the Emir of Lafiagi Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, and the immediate family of Saduki Lafiagi on this sad development,” he was quoted as saying.

“It is one tragedy too many. We are again renewing our calls on the security agencies to not spare any efforts to take out the daredevils who continue to terrorise and waste innocent lives under whatever guise.

“We pray Allah to bring comfort to the family of Alhaji Kudu at this moment and always. We pray Allah to grant us peace and security.”
