Alex Otti, governor of Abia, has directed the disengagement of all civil servants employed in the state from December 2022 to date.

The directive is contained in a memo with reference no: HSA/S.0006/IV/08 addressed to all heads of parastatals and signed by Joy Maduka, the state’s head of service.

“Following the ongoing reorganisation in the Abia state public service and in line with the provision of the Abia State Public Service Rules nos 02801 and 02803, I write to inform you that his excellency, the executive governor of Abia state has directed the disengagement of all staff employed into the Abia state public service from December 2022 till date,” the memo reads.

“However, any further directive(s) of his excellency on this matter shall be communicated in due course.

“Please take appropriate steps to implement immediately and according to his excellency’s directive.”

The affected workers were employed during the administration of Okezie Ikpeazu, the immediate former governor of the state.

Otti, flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP), in the last elections, was sworn in as Abia governor in May after he polled 175,467 votes to defeat Okey Ahiwe, his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 88,529 votes.

Speaking at the 32nd Abia Day celebration on Tuesday, Otti said the past administrations ruined the state.

“But I tell you today, this is a new Abia of our collective dreams,” he had said.

“We are only a few days to our 100 days in office and you can see for yourselves that Abia has started moving. Together, we shall get to our destination. All I need is your individual support.”
