Onitsha traditional council sympathises with tanker accident victims

The Onitsha traditional council has extended sympathy to victims of the fire incident which occurred at the Upper Iweka roundabout in the city on Sunday.

The council expressed shock and sent condolences to the families of the deceased.

The council also wished those who suffered various degrees of burns quick recovery and requested all religious denominations and organisations  in the city to offer special services and prayers for the deceased and injured.

It further urged corporate bodies, organisations, and individuals to contribute towards the humanitarian efforts to relieve the sufferings of those affected.

A total of 69 people died and several others sustained injuries when a truck containing fuel fell on a bridge at Upper Iweka and spilled its content.

Yemi Osinbajo, vice-president of Nigeria, led a federal government delegation to the scene of the accident on Wednesday.
