Anuoluwapo Opeyori has won four gold medals in the men's sigles event of the All-African Badminton Championship

Anuoluwapo Opeyori will compete for his fifth continental gold medal at the 2025 All-African Senior Badminton Championship in Douala, Cameroon.

The 27-year-old will defend his title in the men’s singles category and aim to continue his dominance.

He first won a gold medal in the event in 2019 before winning consecutive titles from 2022 to 2024.

Opeyori was Team Nigeria’s captain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, the African number one badminton player fell short at the Games.

He lost his first two games to Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi and Li Shi Feng of China.

Opeyori is one of 10 Nigeria players heading to the All-African championship.

The team comprising five men and five women will compete in the men’s singles, women’s Singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles categories.

The championship will take place from February 10 to 16.

During his visit to the team’s camp on Wednesday, Bukola Olopade, director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC), pledged full support to the players and encouraged them to make the country proud at the continental competition.
