OrderPaper, a media organisation dedicated to reporting parliamentary affairs, is set to lead a discourse on Nigeria’s climate action.

Regina Udo, OrderPaper’s senior programme executive, said in a statement that the discourse is to commemorate this year’s International Day of Parliamentarism.

The International Day of Parliamentarism is celebrated every year on June 30.

The discourse is scheduled to hold at 8:00 PM on the organisation’s Twitter page, @OrderPaper, on Friday.

The Twitter space will focus on efforts aimed at mitigating climate change, and evaluate the implementation of Nigeria’s climate change act enacted in 2021.

“Given our strategic role as a bridge between parliament and the people of Nigeria, OrderPaper is poised to host this conversation as part of our periodic online parliament series tagged open (OrderPaper Parliamentary Engagement Nigeria) Space,” Udo said.

“The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) had chosen a campaign theme of Parliaments for the planet” for this year’s International Day of Parliamentarism to mobilise parliaments and parliamentarians to act on the climate emergency.

“Since climate action begins at home, we considered this a unique opportunity to review the implementation of Nigeria’s climate change act enacted in 2021.

“And so, how far and how well has this all-important law been implemented? Are the public and private sectors adequately sensitised and mobilised on what should be done? These and other questions will form major points of discussion at the discourse.”

The conversation which is in partnership with Citizen by Zikoko, a web magazine, will be moderated by Oke Epia, founder of OrderPaper Nigeria.

Samuel Onuigbo, sponsor of the climate change legislation in the 9th house of representatives, and vice president of the Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE) would headline the meeting.
