Orji Kalu, senate chief whip, says state governors are in a better position to fight insecurity, banditry, and other violent crimes plaguing the country.
According to a statement by Onogu Mohammed, his chief press secretary, Kalu spoke during a courtesy call on Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, in Lokoja, on Wednesday.
The former governor of Abia state expressed worry over increasing criminal acts in some parts of the country and urged state governors to quickly rise up to the occasion.
“The alarming cases of kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery across the country in recent times is very worrisome,” Kalu was quoted as saying.

“The governors remain the best leaders that could effectively use their positions to remedy the situation.”
Kalu also commended the Kogi governor for ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
“Kogi is most peaceful in the leadership of Gov. Yahaya Bello. The harmonious coexistence among the various ethnic groups in the state attests to this and this is worthy of emulation,” he said.

He called on the people of the state to continue to support Bello so as to attract the needed democracy dividends to the nook and crannies of the state.
In his response, Bello thanked Kalu for his kind words, encouragement, and motivation which he said would spur him to do more for the people.
Bello said Kalu had distinguished himself as a detribalised and true Nigerian. He urged the former governor not to get tired of preaching peace and unity among all Nigerians.
