Osaguona joins Raja Casablanca

Super Eagles forward, Ighodaro Osaguona, has signed for Moroccan side Raja Casablanca from his Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Rangers on a four-year deal.

Osaguona, who made his international debut for Nigeria in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa last September, was wanted by several clubs but he opted for the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup runners-up.

“There were other options, but Raja are arguably the biggest club in Africa,” Jordan Wise, the player’s agent, told BBC Sport.

“They regularly play in the African Champions League and want to go all out to be at the World Club championship this year. Casablanca is a nice place, very close to Spain and I think it’s a good stepping stone for Osaguona.

The contract fee is undisclosed but Wise sees it as a wise move for the played capped twice with the national team.

“If you look at the journeys of top African players into Europe, there is always a process and it takes time. This is Osaguona’s first big move and the club offers another level for him to showcase his talent and take the next step at the appropriate time.

“A club like Raja and his continued exposure with the Super Eagles is a perfect fit for progress we want for him.”

Osaguona scored 16 goals in the NPFL last season for Enugu based Rangers International.
