Oshoala: My dad unhappy with my shirtless celebration

Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcons striker, says her father “is not happy” about her celebration after scoring the third goal in Nigeria’s 3-2 defeat of Australia at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

The 28-year-old was brought on in the 64th minute of the game, and a little over 10 minutes later, she scored what would prove to be the decisive goal of the encounter on Thursday.

She capitalised on a defensive mix-up by the Australians.

Mackenzie Arnold, the Matildas’ goalkeeper, was out in pursuit of a longball into her goal area, but a lapse in communication resulted in Alanna Kennedy nodding the ball past the onrushing goaltender.

Oshoala pounced on the fluff and placed the ball home into the empty net, and she became the first African to score at three different Women’s World Cup tournaments.

In celebration of the goal, she yanked off her jersey as she reeled away with her teammates in pursuit.

The image of Oshoala, shirtless and clad only in a sports bra, has gone viral on social media, generating diverse reactions.

“My dad is definitely not happy with my choice of celebration, but then again, life is a collection of moments,” the post read.

Oshoala was born in Ikorodu area of Lagos, Nigeria to an ardent Muslim background.

Super Falcons’ victory over Australia sent the Nigerians to the top of group B — marginally on a superior number of goals scored by the team.
