Oshonaike, Hanffou link up again for ITTF World Championships

African women champion, Olufunke Oshonaike, will partner Cameroon’s Sarah Hanffou in the doubles event of the 2017 ITTF World Championships holding in Dusseldorf, Germany.

According to the rules of ITTF, players from different countries are allowed to pair themselves in the doubles and mixed double events of the global tournament.

Oshonaike and Hanffou have been partners before at the 2015 edition of the championship in Suzhou, China.

For Sarah Hanffou, the 2010 African women champion, pairing with Oshonaike again was a no-brainer.

“Oshonaike has been my good friend and we understand ourselves,” she said. “It did not take me time to decide to choose her because she is among the best in the world, considering her record as the most successful female table tennis player in Africa having won more laurels than any player.”

“She is a social and very respectful. I look forward to a good outing in Germany,” Hanffou added.

Oshonaike, meanwhile, says she’s intent on going far in the tournament, after suffering a first round exit in the singles in 2015.
