Osimhen: I listen to gospel music before playing any game

Victor Osimhen, Super Eagles forward, says listening to gospel music keeps him calm when heading to the stadium for games.

Osimhen told TheCable that before any match, he makes sure he prays, listens to gospel music as well as ‘Patience’, a 2010 song by Nas, American rapper, and Damian Marley, Jamaican reggae vocalist.

After blossoming at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile and emerging as the highest goal scorer as well as the MVP, the 22-year-old joined Wolfsburg — a stint that never panned out as expected.

But a loan to Charleroi, a Belgian side, saw him play over 2000 minutes of senior football, netting 12 goals in 25 league games.

After an impressive outing with Charleroi, Osimhen was snatched by Lille, a French Ligue side, where he went on to excel less than one season, thanks to a number of exceptional displays domestically and across Europe.

Osimhen, however, left Lille for Napoli, an Italian club, in a deal worth £74 million in July 2020.

“It’s quite simple for me. Before I go for games, I listen to gospel music and before I leave my hotel room, I always leave everything in the hands of the Lord. I pray,” Osimhen told TheCable.

“When we are going to the stadium, I listen to “Patience” by Nas and Damian Marley which really calm my soul regardless of the storm I might go and face there.

“It’s been helping me during my Charleroi days. It’s been helping me here also.

“These are the things I do when going for the games.”

The Nigeria international has scored two goals in ten league appearances for Napoli this season.
