In March, he also pulled out of Nigeria’s friendly games against Ghana and Mali.
There were reports that the striker had suffered an inflammation on the scar of an old injury.
The Super Eagles will play South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on June 7 before flying to Abidjan to tackle Benin Republic at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny three days later.
On May 24, George Finidi, the team’s head coach, released a 23-man squad for the games.
