Osinbajo to meet with northern traditional rulers

The consultative meeting between Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, and traditional rulers from the northern part of the country will be held on Tuesday.

The meeting was initially slated for Monday.

Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity to the vice-president, confirmed this on his Twitter handle on Monday evening in Abuja.

Akande, however, stated that the acting President hosted the traditional rulers to Iftar (breaking of fast) at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The presidential aide said: “tonight, Acting President Osinbajo would be holding Iftar dinner with traditional rulers and tomorrow continues ongoing consultations with them.

“Both Muslim and Christian traditional rulers from the north would be participating in the consultations tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) with the acting president.”

Osinbajo has been holding consultative meetings with leaders across the country, in the wake of a heated polity occasioned by the persistent agitation for Biafra and recent quit notice issued to the Igbo by northern youth groups.

Meetings thus far

Osinbajo kicked off the consultative meetings with northern leaders on Tuesday and assured them that those promoting hate speech will be punished.

He urged against tit-for-tat during the meeting with south-east leaders held on Thursday.

At the meeting with south-east traditional rulers, the acting president said both the agitation from the south and vacation order issued in the north were against the constitution.
