Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s vice-president, is currently in Borno, one of the states affected by the insurgency in the north-east of the country.
A security source told TheCable that Osinbajo arrived Maiduguri, the state capital, around 9:30am.
“The vice-president got to Maiduguri around 9:30am and visited some of the camps of the IDPs (internally displaced persons) here,” he said.
“As I speak to you now, he is leaving for Konduga and I don’t know whether he will come back to Maiduguri before leaving.”

Kashim Shettima, governor of the state, accompanied him to the IDP camps.
Osinbajo’s visit is coming a few weeks after Nigeria’s military command centre relocated to Maiduguri to speed up the process of ending the insurgency.
President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to restore peace to the northeast and other parts of the country affected by insecurity.

Since the inauguration of May 29, this will be the first visit of a principal actor in Buhari’s government to the north-east.
The visit is seen as showing solidarity with the people and assuring them that the government is with them.
