Osinbajo: We will turn this country around

Yemi Osinbajo, vice-president-elect, has described the victory of his party in the presidential election as the handwork of God.

Expressing appreciation to Nigerians for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osinbajo said the incoming government will turn Nigeria around for the better.

“I am very happy, God has done an awesome thing,” he told NAN.

“We already have a manifesto which clearly says that we are determined to change this country and turn its direction around.

He commended the electoral process but said there was need for improvement.

“I think it was flexible enough to accommodate a lot of the issues and problems that came up,” he said.

“There is a long way to go in getting the system to work perfectly.”

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, saying such action demonstrated maturity and decency.

“I think that will set an example which would perhaps provide some kind of guide to others as to what to do in situations such like that,” he said.

“I think he provided a good example as to what to do when obviously you find out that you lost an election.

“The right thing to do is to congratulate the victor and I think the President did the right thing.”

Several hours before INEC made an official announcement of the winner, Jonathan placed a call through to Buhari to congratulate him.
