Osinbajo’s brother, Keyamo get SAN rank

Festus Keyamo, a human rights lawyer, and Akinlolu Osinbajo, brother of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, are among the 30 candidates approved as senior advocates of Nigeria (SAN).

The Legal Practitioner’s Privilege Committee (LPPC) had earlier released a list of 91 candidates considered for the prestigious title but approved only 30 on Thursday.

Oluwatoyin Bashorun is the only female on the list, which has Olusola Oke, candidate of the Alliance for Democracy in the 2016 Ondo state governorship election as well as Adebambo Adewopo, former director-general of the National Copyrights Commission (NCC).

Four academics are on the list.

Keyamo, who has been shortlisted for the title on five different occasions, expressed his excitement via his Twitter handle.

“Hi folks, finally d glass ceiling is broken! Like we say, ‘started from d bottom, now we are here’. I am humbled. #Senior Advocate of Nigeria,” he wrote.

SAN title is seen as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who are in full time legal practice, have distinguished themselves as advocates; and have made significant contribution to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria.

Conferment of the title is made in accordance with the legal practitioners act (Cap L11 LFN 2004).
