The Osun chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has suspended Samuel Akingbade, national legal adviser of the party, and chairpersons of 11 LGAs over alleged anti-party activities.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday, Bello Adebayo, Osun LP chairman, said Susan Ojo, women leader of the party in the state, has also been suspended.
Adebayo alleged that some members of the party are being sponsored to hijack the leadership of the party and mar the tribunal case of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 elections.
“We cannot shy away from the fact that some members of the party have been attempting to take advantage of the crisis at the national level to cause confusion and division in Osun chapter of the Labour Party,” Adebayo said.

“We equally acknowledge the presence of members with inordinate ambition, which is gradually leading to the factionalisation of the party.
“The intention is to create parallel structures at the national and the state levels.
“Based on the foregoing, the state executive council (SEC) of LP met on Thursday, May 11, 2023 to address all the issues and forge ahead.

“At the meeting, we resolved, among other things, that we affirm and assert our loyalty, support and commitment to the national working committee (NWC) of our great party, led by our lawfully recognised national chairman Julius Abure.
“Those identified and affected by this decision are: Samuel Akingbade (national legal adviser), Susan Ojo (state women leader) and 11 chairmen of local governments of our party in Osun.
“They are hereby suspended from the party indefinitely. These members stand suspended for anti-party activities and gross misconduct.”
“This decision will be forwarded to the NWC of the LP and other relevant bodies, including all security agencies, for further action.”
