Hours following the death of at least one person in Osun after violence broke out during the #EndSARS protest on Saturday, some buildings in Osogbo, the state capital, have been razed by fire.

The fire affected a post office in the Orisunbare area of the state capital on Saturday evening.

Officers of the federal fire service are currently on ground trying to contain the fire.

Meanwhile, Justrite superstore, also located in the state capital, was looted.

A salon and a phone sale centre were among the shops vandalised on Saturday evening.

There have been protests across the country in over one week, with demonstrators calling for justice for victims of police brutality.

Earlier on Saturday, while addressing protesters in Osogbo, Gboyega Oyetola, the governor, was whisked away hurriedly after violence broke out, with armed persons damaging some vehicles in his convoy.

Some persons were seen holding cutlasses and hurling stones, while gunshots were heard before the convoy sped away.

At least one person was said to have died during the crisis.

While the state government has claimed that the attack on Saturday afternoon was an attempt on the governor’s life, it is still not clear what provoked the violence during the protest.
