Some X users have expressed mixed feelings over a post from Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Tinubu.

On Wednesday, Onanuga said a video posted on the president’s official handle is not recent.

In the clip, the president implored Nigerians to look beyond the “present temporary pain” and believe in the ability of his administration to turn things around.

Tinubu admitted that the current economic climate is “tough” on Nigerians, adding that his reforms “would work”.

The video was first posted on the X handle of Ortega Ogra, senior special assistant to the president on new media, on Wednesday at 1:43pm.

Minutes later, the video was published on the X handles of Tinubu and the presidency.

The video elicited varied reactions on social media, amid protests against economic hardship in some parts of the country.

Onanuga had tweeted that the president has not addressed Nigerians since the nationwide broadcast on Sunday.

“Trending video of President Tinubu is an old video. A trending video of President Tinubu which came out on Wednesday is not a new video. It’s a clip from the broadcast he made last year,” Onanuga wrote.

“President Tinubu has not made any other public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday.”

Some Nigerians have criticised the presidential media team for being “incompetent and chaotic”.

This is not the first time members of the presidential media team would be singing from different hymn sheets.

In May, Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to Tinubu on media and publicity, and Onanuga, posted conflicting statements about activities marking Tinubu’s first year in office.

While Onanuga said the president would deliver a speech to a joint sitting of the national assembly, Ngelale issued a counter-statement, insisting that Tinubu would not address the lawmakers.

The president thereafter showed up at a joint sitting of the national assembly but did not deliver a state of the union address.
