The United States has issued a reminder to Nigerians regarding the consequences of visa violations.
In a statement on Monday, the US mission in Nigeria warned of the possibility of a permanent ban on future entry for violating travellers.
“Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about past violations,” the statement added, warning that there is no such thing as an “honest mistake”.
“It is your responsibility to use your visa correctly,” the mission noted.

The restriction applies to all categories of entry, including tourism, business, and family visits.
Different US visa categories have different permitted time stays which can be confirmed here.
However, the most popular options for travellers are the B-visa categories for tourists and business persons, and the F-visa categories for pupils and students.

As part of the immigration crackdown, US Vice President JD Vance had warned that visas could be revoked even if they were valid, as long as the US determined the traveller’s stay did not meet the country’s best interests.
Vance promised that deportation numbers would rise as the US looks to trim its immigrant numbers.
