Many people are still trapped under the rubble of a 21-storey building that collapsed in Ikoyi area of Lagos state.
The building was said to be under construction when it collapsed on construction workers and other persons said to be inside.
TheCable understands that the incident occurred around 2pm on Monday.
Morris Ashiru, a witness who spoke with journalists, said he, alongside his friends, came to work at the construction site.

He said a lot of people, including the owner of the building, were still trapped under the ruins.
“Everybody was working. A lot of people came here from Abuja,” he said.
“The owner of the building is inside. He brought some clients to inspect the building.”

As of the time of filing this report, the rescue team comprising the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the police and army are still working to clear the rubble and are also searching for survivors.
Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos, and Hakeem Odumosu, the commissioner of police, were also at the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment.
