Oyebanji announces free bus rides for students, workers in Ikere-Ekiti

Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, has directed the state’s transport service to convey students and workers in Ikere-Ekiti at no cost. 

In a statement on Saturday, the governor said the scheme will begin from Monday, February 19.

“From Monday 19th February 2024, Ekiti state government will provide free bus ride services for students and workers in Ikere-Ekiti,” the statement reads. 

“Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration made this decision as part of efforts to ameliorate the economic hardship in the country.

“Daily, the buses will ply major routes in Ikere-Ekiti and will convey students and workers to and from school and work respectively.

“Plans are underway to increase the fleet of buses and extend the free bus services to other major towns in the state. 

“This will help increase the productivity of the beneficiaries and help them save on transportation costs while providing them with a safe commuting experience.

“Ekiti state government remains committed to the welfare of citizens, and this commitment will continue to be prioritised and reflected in all of the state government’s programmes and projects.”

Last year, the Ekiti government provided free bus rides for students and civil servants in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
