Oyebanji approves work-from-home policy for Ekiti workers to cushion economic hardship

Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, has approved a work-from-home policy for civil servants in the state.

In a statement on Friday, Yinka Oyebode, chief press secretary to the governor, said the policy is to “further cushion the effect of the current economic situation on workers” in the state.

Oyebanji said civil servants on level 1- 7 are expected to work from home three days a week under the new policy.

Workers on level 8 -12 are to work from home two days in a week, while officers on level 13- 17 will work from home once in a week.

The policy is expected to take effect on Monday, September 9, 2024.

“The arrangement will be in place for a period of two months and is subject to periodic review in line with prevailing circumstances,” the statement reads.

“Also, the arrangement does not affect other palliative measures put in place by the state government including the monthly wage award for workers and pensioners; and the free bus service for workers and students.

“The Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji administration is committed to workers’ welfare and will continue to put in place necessary measures to enhance their productivity.”

In the last few months, the cost of living in the country has been skyrocketing amid high food inflation.

The cost of living crisis has been further compounded by the recent hike in premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd.

The product is being sold at N855 per litre —from about N600 — at some NNPC filling stations in Lagos.

In some states, the product is priced above N900 per litre.
