Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asked President Bola Tinubu to address the petrol crisis in the country.

Long queues have lingered at petrol stations across the country for weeks now.

Oyintiloye said the scarcity of the product has worsened the prevailing economic hardship.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye noted that many Nigerians believed the scarcity would end after the federal government removed the subsidy on petrol.

He appealed to the president to investigate the operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) in a bid to unravel the root cause of the persistent petrol scarcity.

“In recent months, Nigerians have been having it tough getting petroleum products at filling stations across the country,” he said.

“I want to appeal to the president to come to the rescue of Nigerians who are passing through untold hardship due to fuel scarcity.

“Fuel scarcity is now becoming a normal routine of daily life in Nigeria, which is not supposed to be the case.

“For the past few weeks, Nigerians have been sleeping in filling stations across the country in a bid to get fuel for their businesses and vehicles.

“While many filling stations do not have the product, those that do are selling at very exorbitant prices.

“Nigerians are passing through a lot, and that is why the president must intervene and put an end to the severe hardship people are experiencing.”

A former lawmaker, Oyintiloye also implored the president to prioritise the rehabilitation of the country’s refineries.
