Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state, has asked members of the opposition to refrain from inciting the masses against the government.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye said unchecked negative comments from the opposition could create unnecessary distractions for the federal government.
He acknowledged the opposition’s role as a watchdog while cautioning against remarks that could destabilise the nation.
Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, acknowledged that the government needs criticisms from the opposition to deliver good governance.

He argued that “politics of bitterness and hatred from opposition members would only sow division and ill feelings among citizens”.
The politician added that persons inciting the public through opposition platforms should be viewed as “enemies of the country”.
He criticised recent remarks from “certain opposition members” against the president, which he claimed stirred unnecessary controversy.

“The truth is that we don’t have any other country except Nigeria, and that is why we need to play the role of opposition reasonably,” he said.
“Making comments that could incite the masses against the government in the name of politics is unpatriotic and should be avoided.
“Members of opposition parties have the right to criticise the government, but such criticism should be constructive and aimed at helping the government achieve its best for the people.
“Constructive criticism is about appreciating good policies and pointing out drawbacks, not despising the government’s programmes. If done in good faith, it will uphold democracy, improve governance quality, and build a better society.”

Oyintiloye urged the government to embrace constructive criticism to improve the nation.
He also advised the government to engage critical stakeholders during policy formation stages to minimise criticisms during implementation.
