Oyo crisis: Makinde finally visits Ibarapa

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, on Sunday visited Igbo-Ora in Ibarapa local government over the unrest in the area.

The Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa areas of the state were thrown into crisis following the eviction order issued to Fulani herdsmen by Sunday Adeyemo, youth leader better known as Sunday Igboho.

The governor was accused of abandoning his responsibility as the chief security officer of the state after he attended a meeting of south-west governors in Akure, Ondo-state capital while he was yet to visit the crisis-torn areas in the state.

He had sent a delegation to broker peace between the herders and other residents of the community.

In a tweet on Sunday, Makinde said he has fulfilled his promise of visiting Ibarapa.

He said he met with stakeholders and security agencies on how the issues could be resolved through dialogue and community policing.

“As promised, we were in Igbo-Ora, Ibarapa zone, this evening. As part of our community outreach, we met with stakeholders, including residents and security agencies, to ensure that issues are resolved through continuous dialogue and more effective community policing,” Makinde wrote.

On Saturday, the governor ordered the deployment of 200 operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun, in Ibarapa to ensure that order is maintained.
