The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) says 545 persons with disabilities (PWDs) will be interviewed for teaching jobs on September 10 and 11, 2024.

Nureni Adeniran, chairman of OYOSUBEB, disclosed this on Thursday during a visit by Ayodele Adekanmbi, director-general (DG) of the Oyo state agency for people with disabilities, to finalise preparations for the exercise.

Adeniran said candidates from Oke Ogun, Ibarapa, Ogbomoso, and Oyo will be interviewed on September 10, while candidates from Ibadan will have theirs the next day.

He added that despite recruitment constraints such as merit, gender, and local government spread, the welfare of candidates with disabilities remains a priority for the government.

“The board is committed to prioritising persons with disabilities and will continue to do so. We have enough special schools for them to teach. There are 22 special basic schools across the three senatorial districts in Oyo State,” Adeniran said.

He said the Seyi Makinde administration remains committed to improving the lives of persons with disabilities without any form of discrimination or rejection.

In his remarks, Adekanmbi noted that special provisions has been made for candidates with visual impairments, including braille question papers and necessary tools to enable them to participate in the interview independently.

He added that arrangements has also been made for candidates with hearing impairments and physical disabilities.

“To facilitate the process, the candidates will be divided into three clusters: the visually impaired, the hearing impaired, and those with physical disabilities,” Adekanmbi said.

The board has scheduled interviews for caregivers on September 12 and 13, 2024.
