Oyo to reopen tertiary institutions from September 28

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, has approved the resumption of both public and private tertiary institutions in the state from September 28.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Olasunkanmi Olaleye, commissioner for education, science and technology, Oyo state, on Tuesday.

“The governor has approved the reopening of state-owned and private tertiary institutions for regular academic activities to commence from Monday September 28, 2020,” the statement read.

“Academic boards and senate of institutions are expected to fix their date and comply strictly with the guidelines on reopening.”

Also, Makinde approved the resumption of both public and private primary, secondary schools which will commence from September 21.

According to the statement, primary one to three classes will take place between 8 am and 11 am; while primary four to five classes will take place between 12 pm and 3 pm.

It also said junior school classes will be held between 8am and 11 am, while senior secondary school classes will be held between 12 pmand 3 pm.

The state government said it is mandatory for all public and private schools to constitute a COVID-19 taskforce which will be led by heads of schools with two members of staff.

“School heads are advised to make temporary use of spaces like laboratories, libraries and examination hall as classroom where it is necessary in order to observe social distancing,” it said.

It also said all pupils and students should be given a chair and table, and that schools should discourage sharing of items among learners.
