Panic as fuel-laden tanker explodes on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

A petrol tanker exploded along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday morning.

The incident was said to have occurred at Araromi town before Sagamu interchange in Ogun state.

The explosion reportedly affected an 18-seater passenger bus which was caught in the raging fire, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Details of the incident are still sketchy but reports indicate that passengers of the bus were affected.

Meanwhile, Florence Okpe, the corps spokesperson in Ogun state, said the number of people involved is yet to be confirmed, adding that rescue operation is still on.

According to Okpe, the scene has been cordoned off, while traffic was diverted to avert a secondary crash.

“Motorists are advised to remain calm and cooperate with traffic managers managing the situation,” she said.
